Choosing a product with a high level of fat will provide your skin’s barrier with a high level of protection and maintain water-levels, but it’s important that you find a product with a fat-level matching your skin’s condition. If you only have a mild case of dry skin, then stick with a product with a low fat content, and scale up depending on how severe your dry skin is.
Moisturisers are usually divided into 4 groups depending on their fat content.

- Creams contain up to 40% fat
- Fatty creams contain about 70% fat
- Ointments contain 100% fat
